Alright guys,
When do we want to record and what do we want to do?
I would love to do My World, Care About You & Control (without the space intro - that is a live bonus!)
Alex, if your mate is interested in recording us then that would be awesome! Would you mind asking when he is free?

I was thinking any of:
Time To Start The Show Still Broken Up Control (+space jam if it works?!) Care About You
I'd probably drop broken up out of the above, leaving it at 3 1/2 tracks that represent the variety of our music in a reasonably flowing order. What do you think?
I'd love to put My World in there or that new beauty but we've got to be 110% on what we're recording - not sure if we could make it with those.
Phil's pretty easy with dates, I've asked him when is usually convenient and said we might be a few weeks getting our stuff ready.

On the subject of effects there's two options:
i. Mic drums, DI guitar and bass into desk. Replay through effects afterwards.
Pros: Fine tune effects afterwards. No bleed from other instruments. Easier to edit the clean signal Cons:Harder to play initially
ii. Mic all instruments/amps with effects
Pros:Possibly more live sound Sounds how we are used to hearing it Quicker if we get it right Cons:Bleed from other instruments Effects cannot be tweaked afterwards
Might be worth having a try without effects see if we can play at all, I know I would find it hard. What do you guys think?
Vocals - Unless there is a separate soundproof partition these go down afterwards. Phil should be able to advise on what effects if any are necessary. Probably a combination of reverb, EQ and compression.

If we are having 4 hours next week then lets spend some time on My World and see where we can get it to go. I really like it, but it still needs to go up in key. I love the fact that this is so different to the rest of our songs and I think it would stand out on a CD.
Lets focus on the songs we want to record.
Care About You - for me this a definate for recording, but need to lengthen somehow, maybe some solo with me interjecting over the top occasionally. Don't want to alter it too much though.
Still - I like, would need to louden up the bass in order to feel the bounce.
TTSTS - May as well put this in as it leads straight onto Still. But is it good enough as an opening song on a CD? Most people are ruthless and if you don't get someone's attention within the first 10 seconds you aren't going to get gigs.
Control - When we do it well, it really works. Need to work on Space Jam intro and filling out the sound in the middle. Also we need to find a timing we all agree on, I don't want to be struggling for breath and not managing to get the words across.
Broken Up - I enjoy singing this one, as I like the internation and the lift of the bridge.
We have to enjoy the process as it will be a long day in the studio.
Just my thoughts.

TTSTS - Yes I could see this leading into Still not being the best opening for impact. Care About You is in my mind the catchiest poppiest song. Could try TTSTS into something else. Could label it "Into" on the demo as a separate track so it's not seen as one of the songs ..
Control - I'm never sure what tempo this is supposed to be. Hopefully we can come up with something that suits both music and vocals without having to make too many alterations. Have we got a recorded version that works well?

Am I booking Chicken Shack for four hours on Monday then? Effects - I don't mind DIing into the desk, but I would prefer it if I could use my overdrive pedal at least, otherwise I doubt I will be able to play the solos. All other FX can be added later. Songs - if we can get it up to scratch (and, yes, that is a big IF) I would like to do My World as it is so different to everything else we have. As Alex said, Care About You is the "catchiest" (does anybody else hate that term as much as me?) song, and Control is thingy on. I love everything though, so don't care too much. Peace!

Yeah the 14th is achievable. I think we should have 4 hours on Monday and only concentrate on the songs we think we would like to record:
TTSTS, Still, Care About You, Control, My World, Broken Up
If we allow half an hour for each, to practice, tweak, sort timings and structures, etc. should take approx. 3 hours, which still gives us 15 mins either side of rehearsal for setting up and packing away and an extra half an hour to either use on the song which needs the most work or to do a complete run through of them all.
I think we should book the studio time in, although I’m not sure I can be there for exactly 6, but it gives you guys time to set up anyway.
Where is the studio?

I do not really need my effects although i would like to use my Chorus and Envelope Filter to thicken my sound but i am assuming this can be messed with post recording?

Howdy y'all .. All good to go on the 14th then. We need to decide what we're recording and in order of preference. I've been told we should aim for two and have a possible third in reserve. It'll probably take a few tries to get parts without mistakes as we're not exactly battle hardened performers .. yet! I'm keen on Care About You (we seem to get this right a lot) and either Control or Broken Up with TTSTS as the bonus third as a bonus intro? Been trying hard on My World this last week but still drawing a bit of a blank Have to see how we fare tonight .. It takes a while to mik the stuff up and check levels particularly the drums which have a large number of mics so there's no need to be there bang on 6, just make it down when you can. Confetti is on that little street behind Oceania in town. There's plenty of street parking around there. Effects can be added after so we should concentrate on what we need to play well with, probably worth giving that a go tonight so we get used to how we'll sound recording and not be put off by that missing bass depth/blues overdrive latersssss ..
