This hasn't been mentioned for a while, so who fancies doing a spot more recording? I don't mind investigating potential studios, prices, etc.
I was thinking taking a day or two (maybe over a couple of weekends?) to record 3-5 songs. I'd like something a bit tighter than we have already, while retaining the current recordings' charm.

If we can find a sympathetic studio, then yes.
I heard Subway are quite good.

I agree, we need a sympathetic studio / engineer.
What does everybody think to Green For Go's demos on their MySpace page? I think they sound quite good, and were recorded at Random Recordings.
Rubber Biscuit is also supposed to be ok.
I'll get my thinking cap on...

Alex, where did you get the recommendation of Subway from?
I think a lot of studios seem to cater for metal and rock bands, so might not be as good for a pop-funk-reggae band...

Didn't Random do the recordings for the Arcane?
I've recorded at Rubber Biscuit with a covers band and the songs we did were more Motown, from what I remember they listened to what we wanted though Might be worth giving them a go.

Yes, Random was where we recorded as The Arcane. I think the problem there was that we weren't specific enough about how we wanted to sound. I think no matter where we go we should take some CDs along with us so we can give the engineer an idea of what we want the finished product to sound like.
I'm thinking something like The La's album - nicely understated.
I've got that song in my head now: "There sheee goes... there she goes ag-y-ain..."

But surely a good engineer should be able to tell what sort of sound we are going for. If it takes too much explaining it makes it hard work. We shouldn't have to take CD's with us, that sounds like someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

yeah nice. I would like to take some examples of bass tones then as i cant talk bass and eq.
I think it needs to sound better then the last recordings as, no offence meant, they do not sound too great in terms of sound quality and mixing , although drums and vocals sound good.

Ok, what 4 songs (if we could fit 4 songs in) would people like to record?

2 people have listened to recordings and said that In Your Eyes is one of our best songs.
I'd love to do Something and Nothing, just for the feel good factor!
I'd also like to get a decent recording of My World.
Not sure on the 4th.

I was thinking of recording Something & Nothing, In Your Eyes and one of My World or Anymore.
Not sure about the fourth song - Wellard may be a goer, but it isn't finished yet. A better version of Control would be nice too...
Alex, what do you think..?
I will contact Random, Rubber Biscuit and Subway to check their rates, availability, etc...
