I am going to The Crash Factory at lunch (probably about 1pm) to drop off the deposit and have a snoop around if anyone wants to join me?

Just got back from The Crash Factory where I met Mark the engineer, and had a good nosey around. Mark told me that he has a degree in acoustic engineering (or something like) and built the studio himself to sound as good as possible. It is basically a floor in a warehouse building that he has partioned off into sections. There is a lounge, a control room, a `live` room and a `dead` room (for vocals). It all looks very impressive compared to Random and Psyrex. To record he uses Logic on a Mac, although he said he would love a vintage reel-to-reel tape machine, but they cost £2k, with each spool of tape (which holds 12 mins of music) costing over £100! Ouch! The mixing desk he has used to be used for Iron Maidens front-of-house sound, so is a nice mixing desk, and he has reconditioned it himself. He has a couple of Premier drum kits we can use (although he recommends we take our own brass, as his is second hand and a bit knackered), an Ampeg (I think) bass head and cab (which was- allegedley built for John Entwistle, apparently Entwistle instructed Ampeg to make him 100 cabs and he would play them all and choose the 3 he liked best. This amp is a genuine John Entwistle reject! Oh, to be a rock star!) and a really nice looking Fender Bassman head and Marshall cab. He said the bass and guitar amps both have really nice clean sounds, which I said would do for us! He asked quite a few questions about what we want, and what we want from him. I said we want a really nice `live` take of our songs, without too many overdubs. I also said we want him to help us capture `our` sound as well as possible. He suggested recording totally live, bu DI'ing the instruments, and re-amping them later, like we did at Confetti, so we have more control over our sound. He asked who were our influences, and any albums we like the sound of. I only got as far as saying "our bassist is a big fan of the Police" which was enought to set him off onto a 5 minute rant about Stewart Copeland is "the man". So, Mark, I think you will have a friend there. If anybody can think of any albums I could suggest then I will pass them on. All in, I think this is going to be a really good session, and I can see us enjoying recording there. Bring it on!! xx

So when is this, next Saturday?!?!
Sounds fricking sweet to me. As far as my sound, a mix between Robert De Leo (Stone Temple Pilots - Use the song Sour Girl for an example of Tone) and of course Sting.
As a band, im not certain...

Tired.
We need to decide where, when and for how long we are rehearsing this week. Is everybody free on Thursday evening? Say 7pm to 10pm at Stuck on a Name (if we can get in there?)
